Neighbourhoods Before Blueprints

Smart Planning That Puts People First.

Across Ward Métis, residents are seeing their communities change fast. Infill, rezoning, and infrastructure decisions are being pushed forward with little consultation and even less consideration for the people who already live here. Caroline Matthews believes responsible growth is possible, but only when it respects the character, capacity, and concerns of existing neighbourhoods while ensuring core infrastructure keeps up.

  • Essential Services in Every Neighbourhood: Practical upgrades that improve daily life—safer intersections, repaired sidewalks, improved lighting, reliable drainage, and consistent snow clearing. Public infrastructure must work for everyone, year-round.
  • Fix What’s Failing: Deferred maintenance only drives up costs. Caroline will push for responsible, timely repairs to aging infrastructure to ensure our communities stay safe and functional.
  • Smart Growth That Respects Community Needs: Long-term planning must support housing, transit, and renewal, without displacing vital services like daycares, small-scale community centers, and independent schools. Growth should enhance, not erase, what’s already working.
  • Reducing Congestion with Real Solutions: Edmonton needs transportation systems that reflect how people actually commute. That means smarter investments in roads, LRT, transit, and parking, without wasteful spending on ineffective projects.
  • Excellence, Not Excuses: Infrastructure must be built to last, on time and on budget. Transparent planning and accountable leadership will replace rushed, costly projects that don’t serve residents.
  • Strong, Connected Neighbourhoods: Reckless zoning policies and bloated bylaw changes threaten Ward Métis's character. Caroline will fight to protect green spaces, mature trees, and walkable, family-friendly streets because planning should serve people, not ideology.
